These challenging times are all about family and community. For our soccer community here in San Diego and for our families, these times are all about how we treat each other, how we respect and support each other, and how we get through this and become stronger as individuals, family members, and members of both the local and global soccer community. SDSC is here and committed to our players’ welfare, both physically and mentally.

Quite often I have been asked about being a youth growing up in Northern Ireland and my path to getting to play professional soccer.  It’s a long story but may be similar to what many of you go through now. Growing up in the 1950’s was a totally different generation and many things have changed.  But I hope that my story can serve as an inspiration for many of you.

Something that kids can start to do, while they are unable to be on the pitch to work on tactical aspects of the game with their teammates, is to watch and analyze some professional games and start to develop their tactical awareness and positional understanding to a greater degree. Coach Mike Lopez shares some tips.

Many of our talented coaches have put together training plans, Zoom sessions, physical workouts and have been available to meet with their team when needed. With schools ramping up again it is going to be important for our families to find a routine that fits in with all of the challenges we face. Make our training sessions part of that routine!

On behalf of SDSC, we hope that you are safe, healthy, and maintaining your sanity! These are unprecedented times we are experiencing, and soccer is probably the least of your worries. However, for our players, we know that soccer still has an important role for them. Its role right now can be as simple as giving them something to do for exercise at home.
